Is Diplomacy Necessary In Your Work Place?

courtesy: ndtv.com
Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji had a surprise visit to Pakistan and this gesture has received mixed reactions from various groups, though most of them are with positive tone. Though NSA level talks failed miserably, this surprise visit has a lot to influence the ties with Pakistan. I think this is a game changer. At least, this gesture is going to change the perception that the international community has on us, and also Pakistan. One way or other, the talks between India and Pakistan didn't resume and there may be several reasons for it. To put a curtain to all those complex differences and start over afresh, PM has taken the right step in the right direction, by meeting the Pakistan Prime Minister and by offering his personal wishes for his grand daughter.

LEARN FROM THE PRIME MINISTER:

Diplomacy is not reserved only for politics or international relations. It is necessary for all of our personal and professional lives. It is always better to win the opponent rather than fight with her. Winning a battle does not mean causing damages to an opponent, but it is more about keeping yourself completely safe from the horrible impacts. In his famous book, "Art Of War", Sun Tzu points out that, a real winner is the one who wins the battle before even starting it. I think it is an important lesson for all of us to sustain and win over whoever we confront in our personal and professional lives, not by war, but by diplomacy and winning gestures.

PUT YOUR OPPONENT'S SHOES:

Whomever it may be, your customer, co-worker, family, friend, just put their shoes, understand the problem from their stand point, find out a mid way for you both to reach to a win-win deal. There is a very common situation everyone of us would have faced. Bargaining with the auto rickshaw driver. If he asks for Rs. 100 and we bargain for Rs. 70 and finally we close for Rs. 85 and there is a sense of satisfaction for both!

One Plus One equals Three!

It's not a stove with three burners, but just two. The middle one just enjoys the heat from both the burners to get itself hot. I have saved a bit of gas which would have been used to heat this gravy before I eat. A smart way of saving energy :P Though small, drops make ocean. It is always good to have a habit of not wasting such non-renewable resources. What are these? Anything that cannot be take for granted because one fine day, it's going to exhaust leaving us in trouble.

From saving a little bit of energy from switch off lights, optimising cooking gas usage, and avoiding lavish use of toilet napkins, you can make our surrounding a better place to live in. It's important that, we not only follow these by ourselves, but also encourage our next generation to follow the foot paths. It is also essential to understand that, your act will have an impact on the energy security of India. The coal available underneath will not last more than a century. But, you cannot sit back and relax because you will not be alive that time. Your sons, daughters and grandchildren are going to suffer. No matter how much money you save for them, they will end up spending everything of for securing good amount of fuel for them. And the day is not far. So, we need to realise the urgency and criticality of the situation and react with responsibility. Stop thinking that, government will and should do everything for you. In a country like India, people are running government and if you don't change, nothing will change. I have seen people quoting Mahatma Gandhi's saying, "Be the change you want to see". They 'like' such inspirational quotes when shared in Facebook and it hardly remains in their minds for seconds.

I have seen WhatsApp messages accusing Google CEO Mr. Sundar Pichai for serving a foreign company after getting all knowledge from India and praising Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam for his service for India, in spite of getting offers from abroad. I admire it ! But, the reality is, many of us forward and cherish such messages just because we are jealous of Sundar and our inability to become like him make us happily share such messages and we are not actually aspiring for becoming Dr. Kalam Sir. If one is a true lover and cherisher of Dr. Kalam Sir's ideals, then she should start following him instead of just praising for what he was and forgetting him and his advices for this country.

Let's stop speaking and start getting down to action and do something constructive for ourselves and for the society. A beautiful house can only be built placing one brick at a time. The more people participate and place the brick, the quicker the house is built!

Productivity Doesn't Mean Working 24 Hours A Day

One of the most frequently used terms in the industry in 'productivity'. Many a time it is misunderstood, because of the misled portrayal by experienced employees. They manifest a wrong idea of productivity, which sends a wrong signal to the new comers, thereby corrupting the entire ecosystem.

Productivity is not about number of hours, but number of quality hours spent on a task. For instance, in our homes, we see our younger brothers and sisters open a book on the desk and stare at it. It doesn't mean that they are actually involved. Their mind is roaming around the dream world, and it shows a wrong picture to us. Similarly, in an industry, productivity doesn't mean spending the whole day in office. It is about spending quality hours, focussing on the task, involving into the assignment and diverting the energy to it. This is something to deal with the mind and not with the physical presence. Many a time, employers doesn't understand this and this would lead to misleading recognitions among employees, which would discourage a true performer.

It is essential to have a conducive environment where a mind can think freely without any other influences. Such an environment would definitely increase the productivity of an employee and also enable to create a productive environment. Compassion is the most important trait required to achieve such an environment. Treating an employee equally will itself create the necessary environment required for reaping maximum productivity. This would also keep the employee involved and bonded within the team rather than feel isolated and fed up. Equality will bring inclusiveness, inclusiveness will trigger involvement in the employee, involvement will make him accountable and accountability brings productivity !

Worrying About Past Is Painful, But All Was Well!

Everyone of us have problems. Many a time we forget the fact that problems come to everyone but in different forms. Relax that you are able to manage the problems. When it comes to relationships, it is too severe to take it light. But, it happens for all! Believe me!

When you think about the past mistakes, because of which you are struggling now, it is near to no use! It is always better to find a way to correct it as soon as possible rather than lament for the past mistake, which has become the reason for your troubles now. It is a universal truth that man is the architect of his/her own future. The decisions that you make today is going to affect your future. So, the effect of your past decisions is what you are today! And if you had made a mistake in the past, you would be suffering for it now. But, it is not all over. You can correct it by analysis.

Sit and think what was the mistake? How complicated you have made it now? What are all the possibilities available now to get rid of it? And which solution you are going to choose among them. You have to plan a strategy today to solve it. Unless you decide and plan a strategy to work on and solve the problem. You will keep lamenting. Do a thorough analysis of the pros and cons of choosing a strategy and proceed to execute it. Think about the welfare of people impacted with your decision, like, your parents, relatives, friends, etc. You can even write them down in a paper if you are not a good thinker. It's all about planning and executing in your own way rather than copying solution from some one else, which will never work. Because, for everyone of us, the context of the problem differs. You cannot fit the same solution to your problem, that some one else had used. This logic is applicable only for simpler problems, whereas the ones for which you are worrying for so long would be complex.

So, stop lamenting today and start to correct them. Of course, some decisions are painful, but you will not regret for them in future. Only through this way you will come out of your problems. Believe that everything on this earth happens for a reason and it will lead you to a good beginning soon!!!

The Book That Transformed Me

Long ago, I was like a typical IT professional leaving parents at my home town and heading to Chennai, India for working in an IT company. Hardly did I call my parents and involved myself in making them happy. I was so excited about work and didn't pay much attention to spend time with my family. Honestly, I took them for granted. I didn't realise that time has changed and in this fast moving world, an extra effort is required to spend time with your family and make them happy, unlike those good old days when parents were with their children all along their life and mostly people were working locally rather than moving to distant places.

I dedicated most of my time programming and didn't pay much attention on the other side of life, which is quite natural with a student just out from college. But, it should not last long and there should be a point in life when I should realise the importance of life, the importance of living life with loved ones, putting family on priority and spending time with them. There should be a point in life when I should realise that when there arise a conflict between personal and professional lives, I should choose to stand by my personal life rather than professional life. There should be a point in life when I should realise that though I love my job, I should have the perception that it is after all a means to make a living rather than something which can cost my personal life.

Nobody taught about this perception and trust me, many time, no one does it for you too! It is we, who should pause and introspect and get to know this philosophy in life as we grow. The balance factor of personal and professional life. Uncompromising personal for professional. Putting some efforts to make your family happy, in this fast moving life, as the renowned psychiatrist Dr. Shalini rightly pointed out.

And.. I met that point of realisation when I came across a book. I was roaming around the city in search of a book to present my uncle for his birthday and I was stuck by a book and in addition to presenting for my uncle, I purchased a copy for myself. Every time I read the pages of the book, I realised my ignorance , understood the real meaning of life and undergone a real transformation of my life. Shifted more towards loving my family, putting efforts to make them happy, compassionate towards them, showing more love to my fellow beings, and finally all together my perception of life was transformed.. From then, when I had a conflict with personal and professional lives, I always chose my personal life. The book taught me that love is above everything in this world, job, money, career, aspirations and what not..! And the book is non other than the most popular "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" by Robin Sharma.. You can also get a copy of it and get yourself transformed...

Working On More Than 1 Goal Daily? Listen!

Many a time, we don't settle in a career option and look for better opportunities every time we get a new thing. It's quite natural and I won't stop you from doing it. Unlike other motivators asking you to carry out one goal at a time, I can excuse you for at most 2 to 3 goals, if you are an exceptional individual? But, who is that exceptional individual? Are you not? If you are sceptical, then listen, you can also become that exceptional individual, but you have to do just one thing.

That one thing is nothing but "scheduling time". If you are a working professional and pursuing your masters degree and finding difficulty in learning academic subjects because of your incapability of scheduling time, then you are at the right place! You may also be someone who is pursuing your studies and working part time or working for better opportunities, well , that's good, but make sure you schedule your time.

Let's say your work time is for 8 hours, try not to waste time during your work hours and complete it within the stipulated time and don't stay back at work for more than 8 hours. It's of course difficult sometimes, but you will have to do it somehow, if you want to pursue multiple dreams. Then schedule a couple of hours for your second dream and another couple of hours for the third one. Stay focussed.

There are a couple of challenges in doing this. Firstly, you will be tempted to overlap times. One work may be interesting and you would not only exhaust the time planned for that particular dream, but also intrude into the time allotted for the other dream, which is bad. You should have that courage and determination and control to stop working once you run out of time and start the other work. This way you can make sure that you move at least a step closer to your dreams everyday and one day you will realise that you are too close.

Secondly, you will be tempted to think about the third dream when you are working on for your first dream. Your mind is like a monkey which will never stay focussed towards on thing at a time. But, it is your will to control your mind. Tell yourself constantly to focus on what you are doing now and forget about what was done or what is to be done. Unless you do this, no matter how many times you try, you will never reach your goals.

If you learn to schedule time, then you can definitely achieve multiple dreams. If you don’t do so, then you will go crazy!!

Problems Always? Be Proud! The Almighty Recognized You!

We generally lament that we are so unlucky to face the world's toughest problems in our life. But, trust me you are lucky. You are lucky enough to grab the attention of God by being so strong to face problems. God puts a lot of hurdles in your way because you are unique and you are the only person who can solve and overcome such tough problems. In doing so, you make yourself strong. Don't get disheartened by facing problems, but gain energy, take a deep breath and ask for more. Let's see how many He has up his sleeves for you. :) Courage of that kind is of course essential to be a topper. It makes you strong, gives you confidence that you can solve any problem on this earth. And, if you don't believe in God, then consider it as Nature that troubles you.

Don't stop doing good even at adverse situations. Don't forget to spend time with your loved ones. Work, problems, stress and what not.. all are part of this life and you cannot avoid them. You have to face them anyways. Don't try to escape them but learn to tackle and manage them smartly. That's what I am teaching you all these years. Because you have a lot of problems to deal with, don't miss a moon light dinner with your loved ones, don't miss to take at least an hour to talk to your family daily and laugh with them and try to draw a clear line between your professional and personal lives.

So, understand that problems never end and change your perception towards problems from today! Stop lamenting that you are the only unlucky being in this world to face the toughest problems on the earth and start facing them with pride of having grabbed the attention of the almighty, for those who believe in god, and the Nature, for those who don't believe in God. You are the only one who is capable of handling those toughest problems, and you are doing it daily. If not you, then it would have been handed over to others, who would have collapsed, handling them. You have, in deed, saved  someone else by taking their burden as well. SO, be proud of you and ask for more! and prove Him, you can never be brought down !!!

Money Is Not The Only Incentive To Be A Top Performer In Your Company

There are lot more reasons other than money. If you perform well and become the topper of your company, you become a role model too for someone else who had just started her career. Candidates who are just out of college grow following you. Your peers are inspired by your character and behaviour. You can have better work-life balance, good name and fame, can influence the decisions of your team and what not. It becomes a confidence booster and brings you peace of mind. Only if you have pending works at your office, you might feel uncomfortable, given our inability to segregate professional and personal life even after working for number of years.

The peace of mind helps you in spending quality time with your family and friends. When I say high performance, it is not about sitting 24 hours in office. It is about sharpening your skills and completing your tasks within the stipulated timeframe. I hope you know the story of the "Wood cutter with blunt axe". If a wood cutter doesn't sharpen his axe, his performance will deteriorate even thought he toil hard to cut the trees. Similarly, if you don't sharpen your mind and skills, spending hours and days will not reap benefits and you'll end up frustrated, ultimately showing it to your family. It's always better to sharpen your skills and perform well so that you can sit back and relax for the rest of your life.

After all, the more you perform, the more monetary benefits you are bestowed with. You are actually a direct contributor for the economic development of this country being a tax payer. The more you perform, the more benefits you get and of course the more investment you make, the more developed a country is. So, your performance, directly and indirectly impacts the social and economic development of our country. Let's understand that and start to show ourselves !!

Your Boss Asks For An Apple And You Give Orange!!!

Becoming a high performer at your office, most of the time, means meeting or exceeding the expectations of your boss. It should be done consistently to prove yourself. Before meeting or even exceeding the expectations of your boss, it is essential to understand the expectations of your boss clearly. If not, it will end up in a mess. Often we overlook simple problems and complicate them by ourselves, instead of understanding the actual problem and solve it in a quick and simple way.

For example, Your boss gives you the following instruction in the meeting

1. "The client wants us to send the complete proposal as soon as possible. They are eager to see the prototype before that. We have to send it to them soon"

If this instruction is given to you, what would you do? Most of us would rush to prepare the complete proposal and send it to the client to impress them. But, preparing a complete proposal would take 4 to 5 days. Thinking that the client would be happy on seeing a complete proposal, we sit and complete it and unfortunately it takes a week. Do you think that your boss is waiting for a completed proposal? No. He is actually waiting for the prototype to send to the client, which is the immediate problem standing his/her way even before the complete proposal, which he expects you to solve. Then why wouldn't he be happy on seeing a complete proposal, forgetting the time it had taken? Well, he will, if you are lucky enough :) What if the client doesn't like it? What if you would have avoided this embarrassing moment , had you sent a simple proposal before to read the mind of the client? And that is the reason why your boss asked for a prototype in the first place.

Sometimes, assumptions will fail us. Most of the time, problems arise due to mismatching expectations, lack of proper communication and understanding. So, it is always advisable to keep updating your boss on your progress of the assignment given to you. A leader will not expect his boss to ask him for the progress. A leader is the one who shows proactive attitude, who wants less surprises and shocks for his boss, and always understands the expectations of his/her boss clearly.

The Best Decision Maker Develops By Making Mistakes

When it comes to a meeting in our company, many of us keep quiet and remain passive listeners. We become mute spectators and accept what others decide. Sometimes even if it is a wrong decision, we seldom speak up and register our concerns on the issue, skeptical about the validity of our claim. But, this is wrong. It is always good to speak up and become active participants in a meeting. Even if your claims make people laugh, it is going to live hardly for a few days and you  can take the pride of making an attempt comparing yourself with people who didn't even open their mouth. The most important thing here is making mistake. Making mistake is good. If your claims, in a meeting are valid, it is appreciated but if it is invalid, no worries. You have a learning that day! :)

SPEAKING SHOWS YOUR CONFIDENCE AND INDIVIDUALITY:

Never stop expressing your thoughts. Only if you speak, it shows your involvement in the topic, your confidence in your thoughts and further, you can improve your decision making skills by making mistakes and correcting them the next time, Imagine you never speak and keep listening to others and you follow it for number of years in an organisation. The moment you reach on top of the management, you would start realising the mistake that you did and would regret for not being active. It would be too late and you would have already lost half of your learning phase in your career.

WHY SHOULD YOU SPEAK:

Speaking improves your effective communication skills, increases your visibility in an organisation, makes you influential among your colleagues and helps you in getting things done more easily than others do. And the most crucial thing is, speaking shows who you are and your individuality in decision making, it manifests you as a leader and not a follower of others thoughts. You need not simply follow what others say, you can have your own thought process, logical connection of ideas , application of data that you have about the topic and derivation of a decisions out of it. The only way to let others know all these intellectual capabilities is to speak. One day, you will become the perfect, confident and fearless decision maker!!!

Don't try to correct your management, Adopt Or Quit!

In India, it is a repeated complaint from many of employees from different private organisations, accusing their management as being inhuman in dealing with them. They say that the management is not treating them with compassion and love, which is a considerable allegation. But, the truth is you cannot change it unless you are on the top. Most of us, who face such problems, are at the bottom level of the organisational hierarchy and carrying out orders from our boss and dreaming of a change one day. But, it is not going to happen because the climate that you face today is not something which is developed in a day or two. It would have been developed over years. The management is used to it. and you cannot change it.

1. If you are on top of the management, try to treat your employees with compassion. Try to treat them the way you want to be treated.

2. If you are at the bottom level, try to adopt and tackle the day to day problems smartly by not accusing anyone. I have written a lot of articles in this blog to do that. In case, if you don't know how to tackle them, quit the organisation and don't try to change the management's attitude because you will fail in your attempt. Your determination and efforts will go waste and most of your colleagues will pay no heed to your words since many are not like you :)

3. The advantage of quitting a company is two fold. Firstly, you can search for another company which suits your aspirations.  Secondly, your resignation will make a considerable amount of impact, if not significant, so that someday, due to attrition, the management could change their mind, which is good :)

The views expressed are general and personal, not keeping in mind any particular organisation.

Soft Skills Can Give You That Edge Over Others

In my experience, employees with the right attitude and confidence have excelled compared to employees with just good technical skill set. Considering two employees with the same level of  technical expertise, the employee who is highly confident with effective communication skills has higher chance of getting promoted. The probability of he getting a responsible leadership role is higher compared to the one with lesser confidence and with poor to average communication skills. So, it is crucial that one develops soft skills in addition to the technical skills demanded in his/her day to day life. The former is difficult and could not be achieved overnight, while the latter can be achieved in a short period of time.

CHARACTER BUILDING AND ATTITUDE CORRECTION:

Character building and attitude correction takes years. You have to make a lot of mistakes, trial and errors to reach that level of perfection that the industry demands. Most of the Indians have poor or no reading habit which is pathetic. Reading is one of the most important ways for character building and attitude correction. We have one small life and it is not possible for us to confront each and every problem and correct ourself. Though experience is necessary, it should be combined with a good reading habit to complement your learning without experience. Reading autobiographies opens the door for learning solutions for various problems we face in this life. It also helps in appreciating good behaviours and adopt them for our own use :)

Trying new things, making mistakes, and correcting them will one day lead to perfection. This applies very well for human behaviour. And human behaviour is the result of one's character. If you are developing good behaviours, you are building your character.

Communication Skill Is A Spring Board To Reach Great Heights

When people say confidence is the key to success, I say it in a different way. In the context of a workplace, confidence comes with good communication skills, at least in India. I always reiterate more about effective communication and contextual English. Effective expression means, expressing one's thought in a precise, unambiguous and to the point. The lesser the words, the better. The yardstick to measure good communication skill in English is the word count. One's ability to express all his thoughts but with the least number of words, showcases his/her power and command over the language.

There is no shortcut for achieving this greatness. It takes years together. And, it is acquirable through practice. It is a continuous process and one should keep updating his/her vocabulary with new words to use them in the right context. This is extremely important when putting the learned words to use.

Reading newspaper (I prefer 'The Hindu'), trying to write concise emails, putting the newly learned words in conversation with colleagues, are some ideas to make the efforts habitual.

What is 'God'?

Since my childhood, I always wanted to see God. I used to imagine him appearing on top of the mountain as a huge image coming from behind it, covering the entire sky, to bless me and kill the evil Asuras of this world. But, as I grew, my thoughts matured as a result of exhaustive reading of various books and I spent long hours questioning the validity of all spiritual conventions relating to god.

I started to think, How God can only be a human being rather than any other animal in this world or even a superior being than a human? When I read ancient history, I came to know that people who lived in BCE, personified various forces which are uncontrollable by human beings, such as sun light, rain, thunder, lightning etc and worshipped them as supreme beings, who are now cherished as 'Gods'. But... wait! In that case, if there is no god or supreme being then how this nature is so regulated? How the nature is self-governing? How complex beings such as human beings evolve from the so called unicellular organism like amoeba? Is this complex evolution possible without a supreme designer?

The so called 'God' as we call, a supreme being, as believed by most of us, may be a human, an enormous energy, or even something superior like a gravitational force governing the entire universe.. I still have a lot of questions in my mind.. I am consulting various philosophers and their thoughts on the existence of God.. I don't know how long the journey would be but I am sure, this journey is going to be interesting !!!

It's My Story With Accenture

It was a big day for me on March 4th, 2015. I had quit a company which was an important part of my life. It all started in 2010 when I was taken into Accenture through off campus, which was a grim period with the climate of recession gripping all parts of the country. I couldn't forget the day when I was offered a job, in a multinational company. It was Feb 6, 2010. I walked with pride since I was one among the 130 candidates selected that day in the all-India level drive conducted at Kumaraguru College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The offer was even more significant since it came in the midst of recession, when students were running from corner to corner for a job. It was a dream come true. I dialled my relatives, friends and loved ones to tell the news and was excited to tell the story of my interviews repeatedly to my friends, no matter how many times I was asked for. I told myself that my career is settled and put in the right direction and from then I didn't worry about it anymore. Days of worries vanished. Right from my childhood, I loved computers and I always dreamt of spending the whole of my life working with computers. I took a deep breath with a smile, as I travelled back to my home in bus, telling myself, looking outside the window, 'I did it'.

I waited for the joining date and it was intimated after a month or so as April 14, 2010. I was so excited. I started surfing internet about Accenture and I felt some happiness inside me on seeing Accenture logo. I don't know, I was a college student and getting into an MNC was a dream in those days. Finally I met the D-day too. I was put under Java training (being lucky enough to get what I loved) and I came out as a topper of the batch, scoring more than 90% in practicals. I felt that I was one step above all my peers and that gave me confidence and made me feel good.

After completing 2 months of training, I joined a project in Sholinganallur office. And I worked there for an year and a half, followed by another one for around 3+ years. The most important transformation within me was from a theoretical college student to a practical professional. It might not be uncommon but still it was very true in my case. It was my first MNC and this experience in Accenture would definitely influence my perception of IT industry and it did. I learned to manage people, to be harsher for the harsh, to be softer for the soft hearted, to make better decisions and to solve problems quickly. I understood that a person, who makes mistakes at the earliest and takes better decisions to solve problems quickly out of his experience, as he moves up the career ladder, will excel. He will be unstoppable. I think this is the secret of success.

I always wanted to tell my juniors that, anything done for the first time is always tough. But, if you do it for the second time, you will get to know it very well and third time will be a cake walk. So, it is always better to confidently jump into the water and test it, rather than sitting outside frightened by the experiences of failed candidates. These lessons are already said by all our good old philosophers but a typical human being realises it after getting himself hurt. This is similar to mathematics. When you read the theory it would seem confusing but if you workout a couple of problems, then you get it.

Loads of lessons! :) Finally, March 4th, 2015. My heart was not heavy preparing the last day mail. I know, I have to run... I cannot stagnate.. I have to keep moving ... Still a long way... I don't know the distance of my journey.. But, I have to run... miles .. and .... miles... and miles..... !!!

How I cracked athenahealth Interview

athenahealth Technologies is one of the leading health care product companies. I am happy that I got through the interview and joined as an athena employee now. It was an interesting experience.

I was searching for job and one fine day, my friend who is working at athena told me that a recruitment drive is scheduled the following weekend and it would be a good opportunity for me if I take up the interview. I was quite interested and got me referred to the position through my friend. As I got the information at the last moment I couldn't get ample amount of time to prepare for the interview, but I was a bit confident with my preparations which I did for appearing other companies.

On the interview day, I went to the office in a casual T shirt and Jean, as there is no dress code. The first round was a programming round and there were 3 problems. They involve basic string operations and looping. One can choose his/her own language for writing the program. A basic knowledge of programming with a decent logical blend of mind will get you through this round. I appeared as an experienced candidate with 5 years of product development experience from Accenture.

The second round was a face to face round. There were two interviewers in the panel asking questions about data structures, time and space complexities, collections in Java, sorting and searching algorithms, and few questions from frameworks like spring and hibernate. I answered all the questions and got through this round as well. I think for data structures and algorithms one has to be strong in basics. Only then one can tackle unexpected complex questions fired on him/her. Basic knowledge and differences of list, queue, tree, etc and sorting algorithms like merge sort, quick sort (popularly used algorithms because of their time complexity).

The third round was again a face to face technical round which was a bit more difficult compared to the second one. Questions were from object oriented analysis and design, design patterns, data structures and algorithms, collections (and the difference in implementations) in Java, and multithreading. This round went for around 2 hours and again for this round too, instead of getting into too much of theoretical concepts, it is better to see from a practical point of view and get to know the basics well. This helped me in answering even the most complex questions. Problems were given to me on the above topics and papers were given to solve them. One more thing is even if you don't know the answer at the first instance, just give a try and put your efforts in solving it and thats the way to crack it! I got through the second face to face round as well.

The third and fourth rounds were again a managerial cum technical round where both the managerial and technical questions were asked, since I was with 5 years of experience. They had very few questions compared to the previous technical rounds. I got through them as well. The programming interview happened on a weekend and the rest of the round were conducted on a separate working day.

Finally, the HR round and I was offered a Technical Lead position and It was quite exciting :)

Union Budget 2015

Honourable Finance Minister Mr. Jaitley has nailed it, when it comes to economic growth, by channeling a larger share of funds to infrastructure, reducing the corporate tax by 5% and discouraging illegal foreign assets. Though the social security for the poor seems to be strengthened, he could have done some more good to the middle class by touching the personal income tax slab. This could have spurred the economic growth even better by promoting spending among middle class, there by pushing the growth further.. He could have compensated the revenue loss through the increased service tax.
